We know how hard it can be to adjust to working at home, especially if you weren’t previously anticipating it. Many people never intended to work from home. As such, you might need a little help optimizing your home office lighting as preventative measures continue. Fortunately, helping our customers find solutions to their lighting needs is exactly what we do best!

Home Office Chandelier and Pendant Lighting

Home office chandeliers and pendant lighting are great for adding a personal touch to your workspace while also providing effective area lighting. Many people start their workday early in the morning, before the sun has risen and you can take advantage of any potential natural lighting, so it’s important to have a home office lighting fixture that can cast light over a wide area.

If your office is on the smaller side, you want to go for a chandelier or pendant that has between one and four lights. Generally speaking, home offices are smaller than the average bedroom or set up in an otherwise enclosed, quiet space. Because of this, home offices don’t require as much area lighting as a living room or dining area. Keeping in the area of one to four lights will give you the light your space needs without overwhelming the area with light, especially if you follow our advice to layer your home office lighting!

Home Office Ceiling Fan

If you would rather not go for office chandeliers or pendants, you can always install a ceiling fan into your home office space. This is especially useful for home offices that are located in warmer areas of the house, such as an upstairs room or a room with a window that gets full sun. But what about those dark mornings and late evenings spent in the office? That’s where ceiling fan light kits come in!

Many ceiling fans are available with light kits already installed, or as optional accessories with your fan kit that you or your contractor can hook up at installation. However, if you have the model number of a pre-existing fan handy, we can try to match your pre-existing office ceiling fan with a separate light kit accessory from one of our manufacturers. Several of them sell light kits separately for just this instance, when a homeowner has a fan already installed and decides later that they would like to add a light to it.

Office ceiling fans that include light kits are both sufficient area lighting for your home office, and have the added function of creating a cool flow of air for you to enjoy. This is especially handy with summer fast approaching!

Light kits are available in a wide variety of styles to match your office ceiling fan, whether you’re looking for a new accessory for your pre-existing fan or what to have your new ceiling fan come with the light kit!

Wall Sconces

If your home office space has low ceilings or you simply prefer to keep your lighting closer to eye-level, office wall sconces may be the lighting solution for you! Because they hang lower than ceiling light fixtures, wall sconces are the perfect combination of area and task lighting. Install multiple wall sconces for maximum area lighting, or take advantage of adjustable swing-arm wall sconces for added task lighting where and when you need it. Office wall sconces work excellently with additional task lighting set at your desk to create layered lighting.

Home Office Track Lighting

Now that we have your area lighting settled, it’s time for task lighting. Task lighting is more focused than area lighting and centers light exactly where you need it. We’ve talked about the versatility of track lighting and its many uses in the past. In the office specifically, track lighting can be used to highlight your desk and make sure you have the maximum amount of lighting around your designated work area.

For home office track lighting, we recommend installing a small track with 2-3 lights that will allow your desk space to be lit from multiple angles. This will make sure that your entire work space is properly illuminated.

PRO TIP: Track lighting can also be used to install small pendant lights, meaning you can effectively use a large enough track lighting system for both area lighting and task lighting!
