This is a general guide designed to help you create a TECH cable lighting system.  Before you
begin, you will need a rough plan of the lighting required for your project or a list of the pieces
your client has requested. If you have any questions that are not answered by this tutorial,
please call our knowledgeable customer service team at 866.203.5392.
Process overview
   - Use this guide to help you select the appropriate system, elements, and options for your job.
   - Use the hyperlinks contained on this page to determine the exact part numbers of the TECH
Lighting products required for the project
Checklist:

   -
Transformer
   - Power Feed Canopy (for remote transformer)
   -
Cable
   - Turnbuckles (one pair for each end)
   - Isolating Connectors (if necessary)
   - Ceiling or wall supports (if necessary)
   - Elements
   - Accessories and Optical Controls (available on each product)
   - Lamps - if not included with elements, lamps must not exceed maximum wattage of element
     or accessory
   - Make sure all finishes match and computer numbers end with C (Chrome) or (S) Satin Nickel.

STEP ONE: DESIGN YOUR KABLE LIGHT SYSTEM

The first step in designing your Kable Light system is to determine what it is you are trying to light. You’ll need to decide where the heads, pendants, or functional art should be installed to put light where you want it. See Heads, Pendants, & Functional Art for thumbnails of all available fixtures. Refer to the indicated spec sheets for detailed specifications, including lamp type and maximum wattage. Choose your fixtures then add accessories if desired. We offer a broad range of colorful and decorative accessories and functional optical controls.

A.  ELEMENTS (Pendants, Heads and Functional Art):
   1.  Choose elements from TECH Lighting Low Voltage elements.
   2.  Click here to choose part number(s) for low-voltage elements.
   3.  Choose Accessories and Optical Controls, if desired.  Accessories and Optical Controls
are available on each model, where applicable.
   4.  Choose lamps, 12 or 24 volt, that do not exceed maximum wattage of element or accessory.

B.  FINISH:
Choose finish of system and make sure all components are specified as such.

C.  DRAWING:
Draw in your Kable Light run.  Remember, Kable Light is designed to make straight lines and
simple turns.  The cables must be placed so that they pass over the locations of all the
fixtures.  Kable Light surface transformers and power feed canopies have 24" feeds, so your
Kable Light run must pass within two feet of the junction box.  Identify mounting locations for
turnbuckles and any turns in the run.

D.  LENGTH:
   1.  Determine the cable separation run.  Generally, the higher the ceiling, the wider the
separation can be.  Different fixtures have different cable separation requirements, so make
sure the fixtures you've chosen are compatible with the cable separation.  We recommend
        the following:
Ceiling Height                  Cable Separation not to exceed
               8'                                                3.5"
               9'                                                5.5"
              10'                                                8"
   2.  Click here to choose quantity and length of cable required
. Order two times the length of run
        plus 10 percent.
   3.  Choose turnbuckles to tighten cable.  Click here for Turnbuckles.

STEP TWO: ADD POWER AND HARDWARE TO COMPLETE THE SYSTEM

A.  REMOTE TRANSFORMER:
   1.  Add up the wattages of the lamps you'll be using on the system:  this will help you select a
transformer.  A remote transformer with power feed canopy provides the cleanest look, but
the remote transformer must be installed in an accessable, remote location.  Kable Light
power feed canopies have 24' feeds; if this drop is shorter than you require, or if you prefer
the look of hardware, you'll need optional hardwire feeds. Click here for Hardwire Feeds.
   2.  Click here to choose a Remote Transformer:
      a.  Magnetic or electronic
      b.  12 volt or 24 volt
      c.  *Output wattage
      d.
Single or dual-feed
   3.  Click here to choose a Power Feed Canopy, single or dual feed.

OR

SURFACE TRANSFORMER:
   4.  Add up the wattages of the lamps you'll be using on the system:  this will help you select a
transformer.  A surface transformer simply mounts to a junction box.  Kable Light
surface transformers have 24' feeds; if this drop is shorter than you require, or if you prefer
the look of hardware, you'll need optional hardwire feeds.  Click here for Hardwire Feeds.
   5.  Click here to choose a Surface Transfomer:
      a.  Magnetic or electronic
      b.  12 volt or 24 volt
      c.  *Output wattage
      d.
Single or dual-feed

*Wattage of the transformer must meet or exceed wattage of lamps calculated previously.

   6.  If powering system with more than one transformer, add Isolating Connectors to isolate the
feeds from each other.  Click here for Isolating Connectors.

B.  MOUNTING:

1.  Determine how far from the ceiling you want the system to drop.  If using a Surface
Transformer drop must exceed height of transformer.

   2.  Next, if mounting turnbuckles to ceiling and dropping the system a greater distance below
ceiling choose either Rigid T Standoff or Rigid Post Standoff to mount before turnbuckles.
We recommend putting a pair of turnbuckles on each side of the run for visual symmetry.
   3.  If cables will be making a turn off the wall specify either Horizontal Turn or Wall Turn.
Click here for Horizontal Turn or Wall Turn.
   4.  If cables will be making a turn off the ceiling specify Rigid Post Standoff Turn.
Click here for Rigid Post Standoff Turn.
   5.  You will not need to add standoffs to your run unless it's over twenty feet or has heavier
elements (such as glass pendants).  Click here for Adjustable Standoffs.

C.  SPECIAL:
This outline covers only the most common Kable Light applications, but Kable Light is very versatile.  For other Kable system options, call us at 866.203.5392.

D.  CHECKLIST:
Make sure your bill of materials include:
   -
Transformer
   - Power Feed Canopy
   -
 Cable
   - Turnbuckles (one pair for each end)
   - Isolating Connectors (if necessary)
   - Ceiling or wall supports (if necessary)
   - Elements
   - Accessories and Optical Controls (available on each product)
   - Lamps - if not included with elements, lamps must not exceed maximum wattage of element
